Fortunately, there is a lar ge range of inexpensive laptops to choose from, but which one to actually get depends on a few factors. The first question is what the student will be doing on it. An Arts major will not need to run specialized programs on it and thus could do with a less powerful system. If the student is going to load a graphic design program, for example, a laptop with faster processing speeds and higher memory content is a must. The student's requirements are also important for choosing between a Windows or an Apple laptop. Apple laptops tend to be more expensive, but some prefer their ease of use. The Windows machines have a greater selection of software to use and you need to decide now what software you want to run on it before committing to one or the other operating platform.
